Dear Supporter of the Arts,
Greetings from the Indiana Arts Council! Yes, we’re still here, though it is true that we’ve been less active than we had previously been. We have had a couple years where we have struggled to pay for an executive director and we have subsisted on volunteer labor. Despite this, we have done good things, such as the annual Youth Arts Celebration (since 2008) where we showcased nearly 1000 pieces of art from our area’s secondary school students, and the Delaney Chevrolet Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival (since 2014) which brings world-class jazz and blues to Indiana while supporting the next generation of musicians through educational outreach.
Most recently, we have partnered with Indiana County, the Artists Hand, the IUP College of Fine Arts, and Spruce Arts Residencies and have been named finalists (out of more than 100 entries from around the state) in a competitive state-wide four-year grant for fostering creative communities from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
Here are a few things that we have planned for this year:
- Community Caroling on Saturday, Dec. 21st . Join us! See Insert.
- Acting Workshops for grades 3-5 and 6-8 by Leigh Hendrix coming this Spring
- Creative Writing Festival
- High School Solo and Ensemble Festival Adjudication
- Extending the Youth Arts Celebration to 2 weeks at the Indiana Mall
- Delaney Chevrolet Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival on May 23rd 2020.
In order to do this, we need your help. Specifically, we need a part-time (and eventually full-time) director, money for programming, volunteers to help staff and support events, money for rent and insurance costs. Your membership dollars go to support these needs, and you are vital to this cause. The Indiana Arts Council is a 501c(3), and we greatly appreciate your support. Please return the enclosed membership form along with payment with the enclosed envelope. Thanks.
David Ferguson, President of the Indiana Arts Council
